HHSBPA Updates and Info 5-21-21

Updated: Jun 25, 2021

Band Families,

As promised, here is the email with all of the information that I spoke about last evening during the parent meeting with Mr. Dailey.

The first piece of business is to ask that you please send your email address horizionbandparents@gmail.com if you need it updated or changed here on the BPA email list. When doing this, please include your full name, your student's full name, their grade level, and their instrument or if in guard. This helps us match parent and student more efficiently, as last names are not always the same. If you know of any incoming freshman or new upper class students, please let them know to do the same. Obviously, they will not see this email. Communication is key for having a productive and positive relationship between the BPA and band families.

Next, we have open board positions that are up for election heading into this new band season for Fall 2021. The positions and candidates thus far are:

Vice-President: Jessica Hughes

Treasurer: Nikole Odell

Secretary: Lynn Scavuzzo and Kim Flanagan

*If you have any interest in becoming involved with the BPA, one of these positions could be for you. Please send your name to horizonbandparents@gmail.com no later than June 1st so that we can have our election and have our board situated by June 15th.

**Other positions that we have open are board chair positions. These positions are not voted on as they are volunteer based. We still need two individuals that would like to organize and coordinate fundraisers for the band. Half of all of the band budget for the season comes from fundraising. As you can see, this is a huge aspect of the band. If you have experience or not, please let us know if you are interested. Please email your interest to the above email address no later than June 15th.

The third item I'd like to mention is that maybe a board position is not for you, BUT you would still like to volunteer and help out wherever possible. We will have large committees throughout the marching season to help with uniforms, chaperoning, feeding the students, pit crew, fundraising, and the end of season celebration. Band camp week will end with the Parent Show on Friday, August 6th. There we will have sign up sheets for you fill out so that we can obtain your information. You have all summer to think about where you'd like to assist and be a part of our band family. Volunteering on one of these committees is an excellent way to support your student and the entire band program. Trust me, the students love it even if they say that they don't.

Finally, don't forget about our monthly raffle currently going on for May. Here is the info...Book Lover's Basket: Contents are a $15 Barnes & Noble gift card, Large World Market Coffee Mug, English Breakfast Tea, two Owl BookEnds, a Clip Book Light, Bookmarks, a Yankee Candle, and Two Books (The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend by Katarina Bivald and Tumbleweeds by Leila Meacham). Remember, with the school year ending on Thursday, May 27th and that Sunday being Memorial Day weekend, we will shorten the time frame just a bit and have the winner announced after the drawing on Sunday, May 23rd. Buy your tickets now! Help support the Horizon Hawks Band. ***Please read the following information and follow the link for tickets...
