Band Camp Update

Hello Band Families,

I hope everything is going well with your Summers and everyone is staying healthy and safe. With our initial band camp set for next Monday and the district decisions being pushed to this week, I felt it was best to modify band camp to August 6th-7th from 8 am- 1pm.

We are still in Phase II Guidelines which we have been in since we started rehearsing in June which means we can have up to 90 minute sessions with groups of 25 or less. Students can also only be in one extracurricular activity at a time. Marching Band is also a class at Horizon, so we will move the main component of learning the field show music and routines to class so no one misses anything important before school starts, and so that we have accurate numbers to start shaping those field shows.

If a student is already involved in another sport/activity at Horizon, they must continue with that activity if they've been participating in it. Our rehearsals will not be "required" like they have been in the past because we are not learning drill to the field show, however if a student is available, healthy, and not in other sports/activities we definitely want them there!

We will be learning pep band music, cadences, new fight song routines, and playing a lot. The students will still get to know each other better, and get to meet new friends for the upcoming year! The staff and I are excited to get back to work with the students and still give them a taste of what we've all been missing so much these past months. We do ask that Leadership Corps members all make an effort to be in attendance because of how important their roles are to the band and we will be asking more of them those days.

I will send a follow up email and post the exact schedule with start and end times after the district announcement this week. I want to make sure I approach these two days with the most updated information on health guidelines, groupings, and any other mandates that may be in place. After these two days of rehearsals, we won't meet again until school is back in session.

Thank you all for your flexibility and patience while we keep navigating forward. It's difficult to not have the answers for everything and be able to make a solid plan, but we are really committed to giving the students a great experience this year!
